Geordie DJ/producer Port Manteau is an artist on the rise, as his
recent releases on the Kitsch label prove. His latest missive from the
outlet boasts two tidy tracks. Opener 'Metis' is deliciously dark and
throbbing, with tribal house percussion hits, sustained vocals
samples, trance-inducing melodic motifs, dark room sonics and fluid
keyboard motifs wrapping around a throbbing, pulsating electronic
bassline and sweat-soaked beats. It's big and, yes, owes a lot to
vintage trance and moody progressive house of the late 1990s (no
surprise given that he cites Sasha and Digweed as major inspirations).
'Arp Attack', meanwhile, sees him mine his beloved old ARP
synthesisers for inspiration, peppering a locked-in, acid-flecked
electronic house beat with all manner of analogue-sounding melodies
and counter melodies.
