With 2021 winding to a close, Nikko.Z's Dopamine White welcomes 
Agustin Pengov back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from 
Villa Mercedes, the Argentinean artist has enjoyed a successful 
first year of production. Following contributions to samplers 
from Aletheia Recordings, Balkan Connection and Strangers Beats, 
Agustin made his Dopamine White debut in July with the 
well-received 'Balance' EP. Also adding Droid9 and Massive 
Harmony Records to his resume across the year, Agustin now 
returns to Dopamine White with a three-track showcase entitled 
'Gloom'. 
Beginning with the title selection, Agustin crafts an epic slice 
of progressive house that's dialled for a peaktime dance floor. 
Played out over eight minutes, it's muscular groove, pulsating 
rhythms and driving percussive arrangements come together for 
amazing moments across the first act. With the main break 
drawing closer harmonic phrasing fades to prominence, shifting 
the narrative from a heads down mentality to one of wistful 
reflection. Opening up further as the centrepiece expands, a 
gentle rush of noise unleashes the groove for a gorgeous melodic 
finale.
The EP continues with the deep, chugging vibes of 'Maybe'. 
Immediately captivating, it's robust bassline, flickering arps 
and gaseous effects make for anticipatory beginnings. Rolling 
percussion adds swing to the framework, while cascading 
harmonies play off the well carved low end, as a smooth 
atmospheric rise initiates the break. Furthering its emotive 
leanings, the main motifs trail across the centrepiece, 
perfectly setting up an arpeggiated interlude as beats drop for 
a thunderous finish.
The release concludes with the equally impressive 'Abyys'. Well 
in line with the previous selections, its striking beats and 
free flowing, energetic style conjures up colourful clubland 
images. A marriage of trippy effects and driving percussion set 
the stage for an indistinct yet impactful melodic theme. Once 
again, the main break is set to delight dance floors with its 
whimsical charm and understated build, the latter of which 
perfectly shifts energy into a fluid, atmospheric finale. Groovy 
and memorable, it rounds out a welcome return to Dopamine White 
for Agustin, who continues to be one of Argentina's most 
promising progressive house talents. Highly recommended.
