............................
The latest release from Just Movement welcomes Frequenc to the
label for his debut EP. The Mexican artist first emerged a
decade ago with a string of releases via Karmak Records. With a
progressive mindset, the Mexico City resident continued to
develop his sound, going on to find a more permanent home on
Nicholas Van Orton's Balkan Connection South America and
furthermore 3xA Music, Clinique Sampler and long-standing
Mexican imprint Mystic Carousel Records. Although quiet across
2021, Frequenc now adds Just Movement to his resume with Quantum
EP, containing two originals alongside remixes on Quantum from
Sanchez and Piektun and J-Sevilla.
Beginning with 'Quantum', Frequenc dives into the pure
progressive side of his repertoire. Its punchy beats and
rippling groove carry a large presence, while waves of
clattering percussion and rolling rhythms advance the narrative.
As momentum builds, soulful melodies and emotive chord changes
play off each other for dynamic moments. Free flowing into the
break, gentle harmonics add nicely to its poignant disposition,
setting in motion a classy build towards a glowing finale. The
companion piece 'Transitions' continues the smooth progressive
minded flow with a gorgeous hypnotic narrative. A rolling low
end sets the track in motion as hopeful pads and buoyant rhythms
move through the framework as the main break commences. Light
and uplifting, the interlude sits at the core of the storyboard,
with its timeless appeal eventually revealing a heartfelt
melody, before perfectly segueing into a soaring finale.
The first interpretation of 'Quantum' is provided by Sanchez and
Piektun who make their label debut. Having been studio partners
for a decade, the Argentinian duo lays claim to an impressive
discography highlighted by releases via Balkan Connection South
America, BC2, Entangled and OLD SQL Recordings. With a remix for
Smart Phenomena Records to begin the year, Sanchez and Piektun
make their Just Movement debut with a quality remix of
'Quantum'. Backed by a tough, chunky groove the Argentinian
duo's bright percussion and bouncy rhythms quickly appease the
senses. Playful melodies add a joyous air, representing the
spirit of the original perfectly, while a gorgeous break seals
its brilliance through transcendent harmonies, colourful
textures and wispy effects.
The release concludes with J-Sevilla returning to the label and
providing the second and final interpretation of 'Quantum'. The
Mexican artist made his first appearance on the Dutch imprint in
2017 with a contribution to the label's popular 'Winter
Sampler', before returning in 2019 as part of the 'Summer VA'
collection. Also finding a home on Balkan Connection and BCSA,
J-Sevilla now returns to Just Movement with a groovy take on
'Quantum'. Engaging from the outset, its muscular framework is
crafted to perfection, with warm rhythms and pulsating basslines
converging for a powerful free form story. Hazy atmospheres and
luminous tones lift the mood higher as the first act evolves,
bringing with it the soulful qualities which make the original
so great. Perfectly timed, the track's centrepiece is tastefully
musical, showcasing the main theme amidst an array of charming
effects and crunchy rhythms, before smoothly shifting energy
into an uplifting final movement. A brilliant remix from
J-Sevilla which rounds out another must have release from Just
Movement.
