Selville is proud to introduce the left-field, scuffed electronic
sounds of Kurtx (pronounced Cats) on his debut album 'The Sampling
Format' out July 15th, 2022. Across 9 songs the Soweto-based producer
lays down a dirty-sample-heavy style that should chime with fans of
Zito Mowa, Max Graef, and J Dilla alike. "This album was influenced by
the music that I used to hear when I was still in primary school,"
says Kurtx.
Kurtx has been experimenting and flipping beats for a while now, which
you can hear sneaking under most tracks on The Sampling Format. Kurtx
did reach out to close collaborators Jehan, BNinjas, and Manuael
Costela to contribute to this masterpiece. "My uncles mostly played
all types of music from ballads, soul, funk, disco, to house and hip-
hop, " Kurtx explains, which explains why the blend of so many sounds
comes through his production
