There's much to enjoy on rising star Swales' first EP for Lobster
Theremin offshoot Distant Horizons. Title track 'Faded Dreams', for
example, is as timeless-sounding as they come: a warehouse-ready,
retro-futurist house workout smothered in bubbly bleeps, stargazing
chords, chunky bass, whispered female vocal snippets and rushing,
Detroit techno style synth-strings. He opts for a deeper and even
dreamier sound on the languid, tactilce and saucer-eyed 'Melting
Point', while 'Resist' is a stab-happy, piano-sporting roller.
Elsewhere, 'Open Your Mind' is a sunrise-ready chunk of deep house
bliss blessed with two gorgeous extended breakdowns, while 'Looking
Back' is a bustling, organ-rich stomper that sounds like a long lost
Strictly Rhythm B-side from the mid 1990s.
