Following years spent delivering bass music-informed house tracks for
Hypercolour and its Losing Suki offshoot, Last Magpie (real name Craig
McNamara) struck out on his own last year by establishing the Sounds
Good Sound imprint. Here he returns to the label with an impressive
new EP. Title track 'Stillness In Motion' is beautiful and beguiling,
with the Leeds producer cannily combining minimalistic beats, languid
lead lines, spaced-out electric piano solos and fluid bass on a deep
and bittersweet treat. Mark Hawkins provides a bustling, analogue-rich
lo-fi house remix, while the EP also contains two versions of bonus
cut 'Es': Last Magpie's own deep, dubby and deliciously dreamy
original mix, and a more angular, forthright club take from Grainger
and Fall Forward that pushes distorted bass to the fore.
