Having spent much of his five-year production career serving up salvos
on Pont Neuf Records, Mint Jams member Kx9000 (real name Kerim
Mustafa) has switched allegiance to TheBasement Discos - for this
four-tracker, at least. Like much of the producer's material, it's
rooted in the more tactile end of deep house. Check first opener 'A
Kiss', a warming and rolling affair marked out by lovely electric
piano riffs, sustained chords, bubbly bass and soulful vocal samples,
before turning your attention to the subtly garage and jazz-funk
influenced shuffle of Berzingue collaboration 'Crypto Bros'.
Elsewhere, 'Early Fusion' draws influence from P-funk whilst retaining
the smoothness of deep house, while Plage 84's rework of 'A Kiss'
successfully re-frames the track as a fine blend of skippy UKG beats,
jazz-funk solos and warming pads.
