Self-styled 'house gangster' DJ Sneak has been serving up slamming,
often loop-based Chicago house jams since the 1990s. His recent
resurgence - thanks, in no small part, to a new generation of label
owners cottoning on to his legendary status and undoubted floor-
filling ability - has been a delight to behold. To put it simply, he's
not lost it - as this fine outing on Frappe proves. Opener 'Chicago
House Music' is vintage sneak - all crunchy, jacking machine drums,
filtered disco bass and spiralling synth loops - while 'I Need You'
sees the Puerto Rica-born DJ/producer cannily combine driving drums
and warming deep house musicality. Elsewhere, 'When You Dance' is a
sweat-soaked peak-time workout rich in deep bass and sweat-soaked
Latin percussion, while 'A Little Acid' more than lives up to the
promise of its title.
