[ RiPPERS C0MMENT ] 

An established artist on the Proton Music roster, Michael A and his 

"Fantasy" series marked a high point as volume 1 hit the shelves in 

September 2020. Now returning with a quartet of new original tracks, 

"Reverie" opens with an intricate rhythmic and melodic framework as 

shimmering pads and filtered synth melodies provide an earworm 

moment. Aptly titled, a crystalline arpeggio pierces the heady 

rhythms at the breakdown before the track evolves in the second half 

with poise and grace. "Obsession" is a typically vibrant affair with 

sophisticated percussive groove blended with syncopated motif and 

immaculate bass pattern. Building with ease, a meandering synth line 

flows across the upper frequency range with ease while white noise 

washes and effects aplenty add depth and dancefloor prowess. 

"Reminisce" is characterised by a light and intricate percussive 

groove, anchored by cavernous sub-bass pattern. As it develops, an 

array of textured layers pulsate across the piece before a delay-rich 

arpeggio and rasping bass line hit their stride at the mid-point 

onwards. A dark pulsating gem, "Bloom" powers forward with pumping 

bassline muscle while a dizzying array of shakers and hats pan the 

stereo spectrum. Melodic intrigue is provided by soundtrack strings 

and an array of sparkling synth phrasing, wrapped in a delicate piano 

shell. 

Another regular on the Proton Music and Particles roster, Imran Khan 

has continued to carve out a continuing presence in the underground 

scene with a clutch of tracks across 2020. With his "Organik" and 

"Sunsweat" EPs gracing the flagship imprint in 2019, remixes of 

Lanvary, GMJ and Dmitry Molosh throughout 2020 have enhanced the UK 

artist's already impressive reputation. Returning to remix Michael 

A's "Silent Moments" from "Fantasy, Vol. 1", Imran Khan illustrates 

why his production skills are much sought-after with a trademark 

reworking that sees a characteristic rich and dark groove 

complemented by smooth arpeggio sequences and soaring pads. Building 

throughout, an array of original production material and intelligent 

use of Michael's remix components creates a gloriously contemplative 

offering that is a tribute to Khan's craftsmanship. 

A newcomer to the Proton Music ranks, Lucas Rossi has seen his 

reputation grow steadily since a debut on Nick Warren's The 

Soundgarden in mid-2018. A seasoned DJ in his native Argentina, the 

South American has continued to find his music signed to such 

high-profile imprints as Balkan Connection, onedotsixtwo and Armen 

Miran's Hoomidaas. The latter with his three-track "Meeting Point" EP 

in March 2020. Reworking the title track from "Fantasy, Vol. 1", 

Lucas Rossi has created a rich sonic tapestry that centres around a 

hypnotic rhythmic bed of hi-hats, shakers and toms that provide the 

perfect vehicle for melodic tropes from the original to float across 

the eight-minute track with ease. Gradually building in intensity, 

the breakdown provides the perfect moment for a more detailed melodic 

study to take place while the second half drives forward with 

percussive intent, thickly textured pads and sympathetic attention to 

Michael A's original. 

Four new original tracks and superlative remixes from Imran Khan and 

Lucas Rossi find Michael A continuing his sonic "Fantasy".
